Term
Two MOHO assessment tools used in work programs.
Definition
The Worker Role Interview (WRI)
The Work Environment Impact Scale (WEIS)

WRI assesses psychosocial factors that influence work performance
the WEIS assesses workplace conditions that impact the worker

can be administered together or separately
Term
early work assessments and programs
Definition
focused on the functional limitations and the biomechanical model
The programs simulated the physical ddemands of a job building on analyses of work tasks and worksites.
Patients engaged in tasks designed to enhance their physical capacity to perform a specific job.
Term
problems with early work assessments and programs
Definition
The biomechanical approach overlooked aptitudes, interests and vocationally relevant skills
Term
MOHO and work assessments
Definition
most factors that influence return to work can be grouped into the primary theoretical components of MOHO.

volition
habituation
performance capacity
environment
Term
volition
Definition
a worker's values or the importance and worth one attaches to work

interests or the satisfaction and enjoyment experienced while working and

personal causation, which is reflected in thoughts and feelings about capacity for work and effectiveness.
Term
habituation
Definition
refers to the semi-autonomous patterning of behavior that structures an individual's life.

it is the function of:
1. habits, which are tendencies to automatically respond and perform in consistent ways in familiar situations
2. roles, which incorporate socially or personally defined status with associated attitudes and expectations for behavior.
Term
performance capacity
Definition
refers to underlying abilities that enable persons to engage in occupation.
Term
if there is a question about work capacity
Definition
then other assessments should be administered along with the WRI
Term
environment
Definition
includes spaces in which the worker acts and objects the worker comes across at work.

social features of an environment include social groups of which the worker is a part and occupational forms, which refer to the tasks that the worker must perform.
Term
MOHO and environments
Definition
MOHO emphasizes that a person's volition and habitation are shaped by culture. The physical and social environments are largely products of culture.

Anyone using MOHO should be aware of how cultural factors influence workers and their context.
Term
Worker Role Interview (WRI)
Definition
semi-structured interview accompanied by a therapist-administered rating scale where the patient is assessed in relation to return to work in general or to a specific job.

Designed to have injured workers or people with longstanding illness or disability discuss various aspects of their past work experience and job settings.
Term
aspects of the WRI
Definition
the therapist can choose one of three different versions of the rating form. The three forms vary in detail and are selected according to the rater's proficiency and knowledge of WRI.

general rating scale is for expert rater
specific rating scale is for experienced rater in WRI
This can also be used by a very thorough use of manual and studying of all aspects prior to interview
Criterion rating is helpful to use when becoming acquainted with the WRI the criterion can be used as a checklist of areas of occupational functioning to be considered
Term
three formats of questions in WRI
Definition
each intended for one of three different target groups
1. injured workers hoping to return to a specific job
2. patients with longstanding illness or disability who have been out of work for a long time or have limited work history and
3. patients who may or may not need vocational training
interview combines the WRI with the OCAIRS
Term
common to all WRI
Definition
designed to gather information that will provide a holistic picture of the individual's potential as a worker and were developed to broadly represent types of concerns that rehabilitation therapists have about their patients.
Term
administering WRI
Definition
5 steps
1. collect preliminary data from the patient's record and decide if WRI is appropriate for the patient or not
2. conduct the interview as a conversation where answers to questions and patient's emotional responses are monitored along with the inquiries made
3. determining or making reference to underlying work capacity and/or skill, since therapist makes the final call. This gives a baseline for comparison of real abilities verse perceived abilities.
4. preparing evaluation scoring and comments by copying the WRI rating form and rating guidelines or the WRI criterion rating guide from the appendix in the manual
5. using the WRI for discharge evaluation and to measure change
Term
ratings of WRI
Definition
SS-stronly supports
s-supports
I -interferes
SI-strongly interferes
Term
beginning of WRI
Definition
originally used as part of a study designed to determine psychosocial variables influencing return to work-obvious that it was useful
Term
Aim of WEIS
Definition
to determine how a particular work environment impacts a given worker.-can impact everyone differently
Term
WEIS
Definition
semi-structured interview accompanied by a therapist-administered 4 point rating scale

designed to gather info. on worker's perception and experience of work settings from workers with physical or psychosocial disabilities.
Term
target groups for WEIS
Definition
people presently working and having difficulties at their job
people who are not presently working but intend to go to a specific job or type of work where the work environmnt is known and in unique cases
people out of work who can gain from identifying how past work environments impacted their work productivity and satisfaction
Term
administration of the WEIS
Definition
1. obtain background data and determine if the WEIS is the right assessment
2.conduct the interview, carried out like a conversation
3. complete the rating scale
4. utilizing the information from the interview to improve the work environment.
