Vertebral Body

Anterior Longitudinal Ligament - unite vertebral bodies and are connected to intervertebral discs. Prevents Hyperextension

Posterior Longitudinal Ligament - unites vertebral bodies and connected to intervertebral discs. Prevents Hyperflexion.

Intervertebral Discs are found between the vertebral bodies and have:
a) annulus fibrosus - concentric rings of fibrocartilage
b) nucleus pulposus - central gelatinous pulp

Superior and Inferior Articular Proccesses

-Form a zygapophysial joint, a type of synovial joint between two vertebrae.
Lined with hyaline cartilage and surrounded by a fibrous capsule, strengthened by ligaments and lined by a synovial membraned which is filled with synovial fluid.

Intervertebral Foramen

allows for the passage of the spinal nerve root, dorsal root ganglion, the spinal artery of the segmental artery, communicating veins between the internal and external plexuses

Pedicle

connect the body of the spinal vertebra to the arch. It is often used as a radiographic marker and entry point in vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and spinal fusion procedures.

Spinous Proccess

connected by Supraspinous Ligaments which run longitudinally.
and Interspinous Ligaments which run horizontally and are between adjacent processes

Definition
Transverse Processes

the point where the lamina joins the pedicle, between the superior and inferior articular processes. They serve for the attachment of muscles and ligaments.

Vertebral Arch

consists of a pair of pedicles and a pair of laminae
