Biceps Brachii

 

 

Definition

Long head origin attaches to supraglenoid tubercle. Insertion at radial tuberosity. Short head origin attaches to coracoid process. Insertion of short head at bicipital aponeurosis of elbow.


Prime flexor of the shoulder and elbow, and supinates


Nerve serving the biceps is the musculocutaneous nerve - C6

Origin at humero-ulnar head: positioned at medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna. Also at radial head: upper anterior surface of radius. Insertion to middle phalanges digits 2-5.

Origin attachment at anterior illiac crest, lateral half of inguinal ligament, thoracumbular fascia & cartilages of ribs 6-12. Insertion at abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba, xiphoid process & pubic symphysis.

 

Supplied by 7-12 intercostal, iliohygastric & ilioinguinal nerves.
