A colorful, algae-eating species of fish is being caught and sold as pets. The fish’s habitat is changing. Some of the fish’s predators are beginning to relocate. The coral reef, where the fish lives, is growing too much algae.

Definition

People are taking too many fish from the habitat.

Without as many algae-eating fish, the algae is overgrowing the coral reef. Without as many fish to eat, the fish’s predators must either find other prey or relocate. Controlling the amount of fish taken and educating the public will help solve the problem.
