The speaker of the house is the most powerfull leader within the House of Representatives. The Speaker of the House steers legislation through the House, is also in charhe of floor debates, and influences most other House business. If something happens to the vice president and the president the speaker of the house is next in line to become president if they meet the requirements. The Speakers may talk to dozens of congress members a day.
