Definition

Medial collateral ligament

  • Pt. supine with elbow flexed to 30 degrees
  • Stabilize humerus with one hand, hands close so that you dont rotate and put valgus stress (abd. the ulna)
  • Palpate jnt. separation and ligament

Definition

Lateral Collateral Ligament

  • Elbow positioned at 30 degrees
  • Stabilize the humerus with one hand and adduct the ulna with the other, hands close so you do not rotate
  • Palpate jnt. separation and ligament

  • Clinician stabilizes pts. elbow with one hand
  • Pt. asked to pronate forearm and extend/radially deviate wrist against manual resist.

  • Sitting or standing
  • Elbow extended with finger extended and resist middle finger

  • Palpate medial epicondyle with one hand
  • Supinate forearm and extend wrist and elbow with other hand

Definition

Ulnar nerve

  • Locate the groove between the olecranon process and the medial epicondyle where ulnar nerve passes
  • Tap the groove with your index finger

Positive sign is indicated by a tingling senstion on the ulvar distribution of the forearm/hand distally

Elbow Flexion Test

Definition

Cubital Tunnel syndrome (Ulnar nerve lesion)

  • Pt is sitting and asked to depress both shlds., flex both elbows masimally, supinate the forearms, and extend the wrists
  • Maintain position for 3-5 minutes

Tingling or parathesia in ulnar distribution of forearm and hand indicates post. test

Definition

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

  • Pressure is applied proximal to the cubital tunnel, with the elbow held in 20 degrees of flex. and forearm in supination.
