What are the six major functions of the Skeletal System?
Definition

1. Support: Strong, light internal framework

2. Protection: Major organs are protected, such as brain and heart and lungs

3. Movement- Muscles attach to bone and move them

4. Mineral Storage- Calcium is stored in bone.

5. Hematopoiesis- Production of blood cells, erythrocytes, leukocytes, thrombocytes.

6. Detoxification: Toxins removed from blood and stored in bone.

What is an immovable joint?
Definition

1. Joints with the least amount of movement. Example is suture joints of the cranium.

Definition
1. Also known as sliding joint and allow for flexibility. Examples are the joints between the carpals and tarsals.

Definition
1. Also known as synovial joints. These joints have the most movement and they are separated by a synovial cavity full of synovial fluid.
