Communcation of a concept or idea. Each sermon has explanation, interpretation or application of a single idea supported by other ideas, drawn by one or more passages/scriptures.

Definition
It is good to know the congregation so they will understand your sermon, and by knowing your congregation, you know what problems they are facing and you can address them and give them (hopefully!) some spiritual principles to help solve them.

Yes, Jesus taught in parables. We can retell stories in the bible to meet the needs of the congregation.
