Cards

Term
RCP Purpose
Definition

Forced flow:
Circulate RCS water transferring heat from  Rx core to S/Gs
Provide energy for RCS heatup to Hot standby
RCS pressure boundary

Term

RCP

Design Basis

Definition

Maintain DNBR during normal ops and transients

Critical Heat Flux
Actual Heat Flux

Motor Flywheels provide pump coastdown ensuring core cooling during transition to Natural Circulation
Chemicalmixing maintained during emergency borations

Term
Name the Four Major sections of the RCP:
Definition

The pump consists of four general areas:

a.  Impeller Section
b. Thermal Barrier Section
c. Rotating Assembly and Radial Bearing
d. Seals

Term

Turning Vane Diffuser
Definition

 Above impeller.

Attached to Thermal Barrier flange.
Turning Vane Diffuser converts velocity head into pressure head.
At the top of the diffuser, the turning vanes direct the upward flow toward the single discharge nozzle.
Diffuser adapter at bottom of impeller prevents back leakage of discharge to pump suction.

Term

Thermal Barrier
& Heat Exchanger
Definition

Designed to minimize heat transferred to the pump radial bearing and seal package on loss of seal injection.
40 gpm CCW flow capable of cooling RCS fluid to 140 ˚F
CCW in this area only really needed on a loss of seal injection

Term

Seal Water Flow
Definition

The seal assembly function is to impose pressure breakdown from RCS pressure conditions to ambient, limiting reactor coolant losses to an acceptable minimum.
CVCS injection
8 gpm overcomes RCS pressure by 50# at reduced temperature
5 gpm flows down along thermal barrier & heat exchanger into RCS.
Remaining 3 gpm flows upward
cooling the  pump bearing
then enters #1 seal.

Term

CONDITIONS REQUIRED TO OPEN 2CV114:
Definition

Seal Outlet Temp approaching 190 ºF AND
All of the following conditions exist:
RCS 100 – 1000 psig, and
No. 1 seal leak-off flow rates are < 1 gpm, and
Seal injection flow to each RCP is 6 gpm, and
21-24CV104, Seal Leakoff Valves, are OPEN to prevent seal cocking.

Term

2CV114 IS TO BE CLOSED WHEN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS EXIST
Definition

RCS Pressure >1000 psig, or
RCS Pressure <100 psig, or
ANY CV104, Seal Leakoff Valve CLOSED, or
ANY No. 1 Seal Leakoff flow rate is > 1 gpm

Term
Seal Failures:
Definition

NOTE:  Excess Letdown Line pressure (PI-121) is indicative of seal leakoff pressure and can help to confirm seal abnormalities
#1 Seal Failure:
Alarms: Seal D/P Low, Stand Pipe Hi, Seal Leakoff Hi/lo
Lowering seal d/p
Rising standpipe level (due to increased d/p at #2 seal)
High seal leakoff flow
Reduced leakoff for unaffected pumps
High CC return temperature
High injection flow

Term
Seal Failures:
Definition

NOTE:  Excess Letdown Line pressure (PI-121) is indicative of seal leakoff pressure and can help to confirm seal abnormalities
#2 Seal Failure:
High standpipe level alarm
#1 seal leakoff lower
Increased frequency of RCDT pump runs

Term
Seal Failure:
Definition

NOTE:  Excess Letdown Line pressure (PI-121) is indicative of seal leakoff pressure and can help to confirm seal abnormalities
#3 Seal Failure:
Low standpipe level alarm
Containment RMS alarms

Term

12(22)----”E
13(23)----”F
14(24)----”G

Term
Purpose of CV114
Definition

CVCS water bypass to the #1 Seal:

Provides flow to the bearings when the pressure D/P across seal #1 is too low to provide flow.

Term

Where does the CV115 relieve to?

Definition
Releaves to the PRT @ 150# to ensure seal return.
Term

RCP Start up permissives:

RCP Oil Lift Pumps:

Definition

Oil Pump Manual Start: satisfies 28 VDC control circuit

23 RCP started to facilitate RCS pressure control

Need to be in service to start respective RCP

provides >= 500# of pressure to lift the kingsbury thrust bearing.

Term

Cause and consequense of loss of cooling to the RCP motor...

Cause and consequense of loss of cooling to the RCP seals...

Definition

Motor: Loss of CCW 5 minute shutdown requirement.

Seals: Loss of both seal injection flow and CCW to the thermal barrier results in immediate action to stop the RCP

loss of only one no action needed

Term

Definition
4 Pumps = 12.1 MW Thermal
