  • a 3m safety jump

What is the IET for a Maritime Warfare Officer?
 Definition

"Junior Warfare Application Course (JWAC) - 4 phases

 

  1. 9wks / WATSON or CRESWELL = Basic MWO Duties (OOW, RelVel) incl. 1 week Sea Training Period 
  2. 22wks / AT SEA = Consolidate skills, see all depts / subspecs
  3. 14wks / WATSON = Theor/prac. nav., mariner skills, bridge mgt. + 6 months (26 wks) on a MWV [Harbour Watchkeeping Cert]
    + 3 weeks oral/written exams [Navigation Watchkeeping Cert]
  4. 16wks / WATSON incl. 6wks warfare theory + 4 wks bridge sim
    + 6 months (26 wks) on a MFU [Bridge Warfare Cert]

What can you expect to do after completing JWAC?
 Definition
Return to CRESWELL for Junior Officer Leadership Course (JOLC) if not covered in Phase 4.

Then consolidate skills at sea for another 18 months as an OOW prior to commencing specialist training.

1 PWO - Principal Warfare Officer
A warfare tactician, aspire to command MFUs.
2 MGO(H) or MGO(METOC) - Maritime Geospatial Officer
A specialist in Hydrography Survey or Oceanography (Weather/Forecast)
3 SM - Submarine Service
After BWC, undergo training ashore and at sea, then progress through positions: AWO (Watch), Nav, SONIX, OPSO, XO, CO.
4 MCDO - Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officer
Planning, supervision and performance of specialist diving missions, surface/underwater demolitions, render-safe/disposal of IEDs / UXOs"
