Additional Pharmacology Flashcards

Cards

Term
Acetazolamide
Definition

Carbonic Anhydrase inhibitor (inhibits NaHCO3 resorb)

-Alkalizes urine (inhibits H+ secretion)

Tx: short-term diuressi, glaucoma, urinary alkalinization (kidney stones)

*Metabolic acidosis (don't secrete H+ and pee out HCO3)

sulfa drug

Term
Furosemide
Definition

Thick ascending loop diuretic, inhibits Na+-K+-2Cl- symporter

-^ Na and Cl secretion

-^ Ca and Mg secretion ( can get hypoMg)

-^ K secretion (increases Na to other parts)

**Ototoxicity

Used for Hypercalcemia

Sulfa drug

Term
Ehtancrynic acid
Definition

Thick ascending loop diuretic, inhibits Na+-K+-2Cl- symporter

-^ Na and Cl secretion

-^ Ca and Mg secretion ( can get hypoMg)

-^ K secretion (increases Na to other parts)

**Ototoxicity

Used for Hypercalcemia

Not a sulfa drug

Term
Bumetanide
Definition

Thick ascending loop diuretic, inhibits Na+-K+-2Cl- symporter

-^ Na and Cl secretion

-^ Ca and Mg secretion ( can get hypoMg)

-^ K secretion (increases Na to other parts)

**Ototoxicity

Used for Hypercalcemia

sulfa drug

Term
Thiazide Diuretic
Definition

Works in distal convoluted tubule on Na+/Cl- cotransporter

*can get hyperlipidemia, sulfa derivative, hypochloremic alkalosis, hypokalemia

Tx: HTN, edema, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus

**Can unmask hypercalcemia due to something else (enhances Ca2+ resorption)

Term
Amiloride
Definition

Potassium Sparing diuretic (works on distal tubule and collecting duct)

-Blocks Na channels, hyperpolarizing luminal membrane

*Use with thiazide and loop to reduce K+ secretion

Sfx: can get hyperkalemia

Term
Triamterene
Definition

Potassium Sparing diuretic (works on distal tubule and collecting duct)

-Blocks Na channels, hyperpolarizing luminal membrane

*Use with thiazide and loop to reduce K+ secretion

Sfx: can get hyperkalemia

Term
Spironolactone
Definition

Aldosterone antagonist (DT and CT)

-inhibits binding to mineralocorticoid receptor, does not increase Na pump expression (in nucleus)

Tx: use for hyperaldosteronism

Term
Eplerenone
Definition

Aldosterone antagonist (DT and CT)

-inhibits binding to mineralocorticoid receptor, does not increase Na pump expression (in nucleus)

Tx: use for hyperaldosteronism
