Term
scopolamine

ANTIDOTE: physostigmine (blocks AChE thus increasing ACh)
Definition
-anticholinergic psychedelic (antimuscarinic)
-other common anticholinergics= atropine and l-hyoscyamine
-found in travel-sickness products
**acts on PNS =dry mouth, reduced sweating, dry skin, higher body temp, pupil dilation, blurry vision... CLOUDS CONSCIOUSNESS AND PRODUCES AMNESIA!!!
Term
mescaline (peyote cactus) found in S.W. U.S. and Mexico
Definition
-indians
-orally - rapidly and completely absorbed (5mg/BW)
-reaction takes 1-2 hrs
-produces acute psychotomimetic state and high effects on visuals within 3.5-4
-lasts 10hrs and does not metabolize before excretion
Term
MDMA (ecstasy) aka catecholamine psychedelic
structurally related to mescaline & methamphetamine
-more potent than mescaline
Definition
-reuptake inhibitor of monoamines 5-HT, DA, and NE & ACh
- adverse reactions=higher BP, HR, muscle tension & anxiety
-breakdown of skeletal muscle, hyperthermia, kidney failure etc
-rapid tolerance is developed
HIPPOCAMPAL DAMAGE!!!
Term
other MDMA related substances
Definition
2,5 dimethoxy-4-propylthiophenethylamine aka BLUE MYSTIC
2C-T-7, T7, Tripstay, Tweety Bird Mescaline, 2C-b, Nexus, etc
-PIPERAZINES: BZP or TFMPP
Term
Myrsticin & elemicin
Definition
-derived from nutmeg & mace
-1-2 tbsp or 5-15 grams often via brewed tea
-2-5 hr delay
-induces confusion, unreality, disorientation, depersonalization, hallucinations, and euphoria
-side effects=vomiting, nausea, and tremors. death=infrequent
Term
LSD (Lysergic Acid diethylamide)
Definition
-Albert Hofmann 1938
-orally & rapid absorption
-25-300 micrograms w/60min absorption
-metabolized in liver b4 excretion within 6-8 hrs
-present in urine up to 30hrs post ingestion
-somatic phase=CNS activation
-easy cross- tolerance
Term

Phencycladine & Ketamine

(Glutaminergic NDMA Receptor Antagonists)

Definition

psychotomimetic alnalgesic amnestic actions of NMDA noncompetitive antagonists thus they inhibit NMDA recep by blockage of ACh recep, DA reuptake, induce DA release, and partial agonist at DA2receptors

-high doses=coma or stupor

-PCP aka angel dust
-sold in crystal, dust, hog, PCP, THC, or mescaline
-eaten, snorted, or injected IM/IV

-oral=slow absorp. smoked=15min peak max-2hrs half life=18hrs (11-51hrs)
lethal dose=10x the anesthetic dose & reduces pain, maintains BP & HR
special K
not taken orally bc metab. by norketamine
used in pediactrics & vet anesthesia
rapid antidepressant effects & induce syptoms of schizophrenia
**structurally unrelaed to other psychedelics

Term

methoxetamine

(ketamine family)

Definition

noncompetitive antagonist for NMDA receptor w/ DA reuptake

-orally [20-100mg], rectally, snorted, injected(IM)[10-50mg]

effects after 5-10min, lasts 1-2hrs...5-7 snorting

-euphoria, hallucinations, poiate-like effects

-adverse reactions= nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, paranoia, anxiety, tachycardia, respiratory depression

-care=benzodiazepenes and antimimetics

Term
dextromethorpan (DXM)
Definition

-OTC cough suppresants ie Robitussin DM, Vicks, Tylenol DM..

-blocks NDMA receptors

-metabolite=dextrophan (DXO)

-raises BP, HR, creates jitters, anxiety, takativeness, and somatic effets like dizziness numbness etc.

-max dose=unresponsiveness, confusion, fearfulness, or mysticism

Term

Salvinorin A

(Salvia Divinorum aka magic mint, diviner's sage, Sally-D)

Definition

-perennial herb used to cure divination in spritual practice

-chewed, smoked[200-500 micrograms], or brewed in tea

-short acting=about 30 min & legal

*endures 1st pass metabolism and breakdown

-laughter, realm of dead, feeling whole, flying floating sensations, etc..

-adverse effects= confusion, drwosiness, intense anxiety, hangover headache...

-no action on serotonin 5-HT2A receptors but a kappa opiod agonist

-can be used to treat GI disorders

Term

Ololiuqui

Definition

-derived from morning glory seeds in Central & S. Amer.

-nausea, headache, vomiting, raises BP, dilates pupils and induces sleepiness

100+ seeds leads to distorted perception, hallucinatons, and confusion

Term

Bufotenine

(5-hydroxy DMT aka dimethylserotonin)

Definition

-acts like LSD and DMT

-potent serotonin agonist hallucinogen especially 5-HT2A recpetor
