Term
Nervous System 3 Major Functions and Major Organs
Definition
Function is to receive information from the environment, interpret that information, and create a response to it. 3 major parts are the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
Term
Circulatory System Vessels and Organs
Definition
Heart and Vessels.
Term
Immune System Primary Function
Definition
Function is to destroy any germs that invade the body. When germs enter body macrophage spots it, then eats it and travels to nearby lymph node or spleen. THen macrophage tells T and B cells that germs are invading the body. Tcells find out what the germ looks like from the macrophage and goes to attack the germ. Bcells dont kill germs directly. They make a weapon called an antibody. Antibodies are then released into bloodstream to entire body.
Term
Respiratory System Path of Air and Organs
Definition
Breath begins when the diaphragm contracts. This creats a vaccuum drawing air into the nose and mouth. The air then travels down the trachea and then enters the two bronchial tubes which lead to lungs. In lungs the bronchial tubes branch into bronchioles. At end of them air enters tiny sacs called alveoli, surrounded by small blood vessels called cappilaries. Then oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide. Then forced back out of the lung through the trachea and out of the mouth.
Term
Muscular and Skeletal System 2 major functions.
Definition
Its functions is to provide structural support and protection as well as the power needed for movement.
Term
Digestive System path of food and Major Organs.
Definition
Begins in mouth where food is chewed into small pieces. Then is broken down by saliva, produced by salivary glands. Then the food travels down the esophagus into stomach. Stomach churns food and produces acid that helps digest. Now enters small intestine, enzymes from pancreas and bile are added to further digest food. Then they pass through the walls of small intestine and enter blood stream. Undigested food travels down large intestine, and absorbs most water and then waste leaves the body through the anus.
