What is phylogeny? What do the axes mean on a phylogenetic tree?
Definition
Phyologeny is the the study of the relationship between different taxa. On a phylogenetic tree, the axis that the branches are growing represents time, the other axis has no units.

What is the difference bewteen taxonomy and systematics?
Definition
Taxonomy studies the nomenclature and ordering of taxa. Systematics observes the relationship between said taxa.

What is the difference between homology and homoplasy?
Definition
Homology is when there are shared characteristics between species because of common ancestors. Homoplasy is when there are shared characteristics for other reasons - for example, scientists believed four-chambered hearts evolved twice.
