• Vasoconstrictor

• increase BP and cardiac output

SE:  H/A, palpitations, nervousness, epigastric distress, angina, hypertensiohn, tissue necrosis.

Dopamine

(Intropin)

• Low dose: dilates renal and coronary arteries

• High dose:  vasoconstrictor

SE:  increased ocular pressure, ectopic beats, nausea, tachycardia, chest pain, dysrhythias.

Epinephrine

(Adrenalin)

• Stimulates alpha and beta adrenergic receptors

SE:  Nervousness, restlessness, dizziness, local necrosis of skin

Isoproterenol

(Isuprel)

• Stimulates beta 1 and 2 adrenergic receptors

SE:  H/A, palpitations, tachycardia, changes in BP, angina, tissue necrosis

Phenylephrine

(Neo-Synephrine)

• potent alpha 1 agonist

SE:  palpations, tachycardia, hypertension, dysrhythmia, angina, tissue necrosis

Dobutamine hydrochloride

(Dobutrex)

• stimulates beta 1 receptors

SE:  hypertension, PCs, asthmatic episodes, H/A

Milrinone

(Primacor)

• smooth muscle relaxant used to treat severe heart failure

SE:  dysrhythmias, thrombocytopenia, jaundice

Sodium nitroprusside

(Nitropress)

• Dilates cardiac veins and arteries

• Decreases preload and afterload

SE:  hypotension

Diphenhydramine HCl

(Benedryl)

• blocks efffects of histamine on bronchioles, GI tract, and blood vessels

SE:  drowsiness, cnfusion, insomnia, H/A, vertigo, phoosensitivity
