Definition
characterized by acute attacks with full or partial recovery.  Between attacks, the disease does not progress.  Clearly defined exacerbations (flare-ups, attack, relapse) followed by a partial or complete recovery period where your free from disease progression.

progressive disability without remission from the beginning of the disease. Slow but nearly continuous worsening of the disease with no relapses or remissions.
