-Fundamentally, psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes

i. Mental processes include thinking, feeling and desires

ii. Behavior includes talking, smiling, crying etc.

- The standard for all research which is a study conducted via careful observations and scientifically based research

- I.E. studies that are tested and researched using a method like the scientific method, not "common sense ideals"

- Phony, unscientific psychology being set forth as the real thing

i. Can lead to real and viable psychological observations being ignored

ii. Can lead to serious harm like unvalidated therapies from a fraud psychoanalysis
