Term
What are the three cell types involved in the immune response?
Definition
  1. APC (Antigen-Presenting Cell)
  2. B Lymphocytes
  3. T Lymphocytes
Term
What are the four characteristics of APC?
Definition
  1. APC is a marchophage (M0)
  2. APC engulfs foreign Ag and lysis it
  3. Ag framenets are attached to APC with epitope displaying
  4. Ab binds to Ag and is shape specific
Term
What are the three characteristics of B Lymphocytes?
Definition
  1. Recognizes foriegn Ag
  2. Surface markers are Ag receptors (BCR)
    • Accept specific Ag / exact makes equals good IR
  3. Convert to plasma cells which make Abs
Term
What are the three characteristics of T lymphocytes?
Definition
  1. Recognize foriegn Ag.
  2. Surface markers are Ag receptors (TCR)
  3. Either regulate IR or indirectly attack foreign Ag
    • TH lymphs (helper) have CD4 (sometimes called T4 cells) - boost IR
    • TC lymphs (cytotoxic) - directly detroy Ag
    • TS lymphs (suppressor) have CD8 - suppress IR
