• Rupture of organ
• diverticulitis
• perforated ulcer
• Penetrating wounds
• Cirrhosis "spontaneous peritonitis"
• Peritoneal dialysis

Peritonitis fluid is not acidic.

Ascites accumulates r/t liver failure.

• Fluid shifts from intravascular space;
• F & E imbalances;
• Circulatory collapse and respiratory problems --> shock, death

Rebound tenderness & lots of pain;

Decr/Absent bowel sounds;

Rigid, distended abdomen;

Shallow breathing, hypoventilation & SpO2 desat r/t P on diaphragm;

BP decr, HR incr, RR tachypnea;

Fever;

Hypovolemic or Septic Shock;

Urine output decr.
