DVT
Definition
deep vein thrombosis
DVT and PE are manifestations of the same diagnoisis, VTE. DVT is split up into two categories: proximal and distal DVT.PVT is more of a risk medically because it's associated with high risk diseases. primary objectives of treatment are to prevent further clot extension, acute PE, recurrent thromboses, and further complications.
Heparin and Warfarin are common treatments, ambulation and compression stockings help to increase circulation.

pulmonary embolus
Definition
obstruction of a pulmonary artery or one of its branches by material. Can be acute or chronic- with acute, symptoms usually start as soon as the artery or a branch is blocked, where with chronic, it happens over time due to hypertension. most arise as a product of DVT. common symptoms are dyspnea upon exertion, tachypnea, tachycardia (highly variable and nonspecific). Main therapy is anticoagulation.
