Term
Temporal Lobe
Definition
Processes speech, allows you to hear and understand the spoken word. If you push on that part of the brain you can "hear" things or even disable your hearing. When tumors grow on this part of the brain it can cause hearing loss and/or understanding of spoken words.
Term
Occipital Lobe
Definition
For vision. (Think occipital = optical). If you press on this part of the brain it can cause you to have impaired vision or you could even see shapes or - in rare cases - scenes from your life. If a tumor grows on this part of the brain, you could get impaired vision or begin seeing things.
Term
Frontal Lobe
Definition
Executive function, high order reasoning... Basically the part of you that "thinks" and reasons. Your conscience is here, the part of you that says "uhh I don't think jumping off this building with a sheet as a parachute is the greatest idea". This is also where ADHD patients have lower frontal lobe activity and the ADHD is actually over-compensating for that. The medicine Ritalin stimulates brain activity in the frontal lobe so that the patients' brains will stop over-compensating and calm them down.
Term
Parietal Lobe
Definition
Skin sensations and your general sense of body position. In a dark room, you can get a general feel for where you are in the space because of this lobe.
