Opening Price

Definition
 is the first price paid after trading starts, usually when the stock exchange "opens its trading doors" in the morning.  Sometimes, opening price is higher or lower than the closing price of the previous day (orders are placed overnight and can affect the demand and thus, the opening price).

the closing price for the trading day prior to the last trade reported.

A parent company is a holding company that owns enough voting stock in another firm (subsidiary) to control management and operations by influencing or electing its board of directors. A parent company could simply be a company that owns another company.
