Term
3 Planes of the body
Definition

1. Sagittal: anterior to posterior plane

2. Frontal: Side to side plane

3. Transverse: Separates inferior and superior

Term
The axes to the sagittal, frontal, and transverse plane
Definition

Sagittal: frontal axis (aka bilateral)

Frontal: Sagittal (aka Anteroposterior) axis

Transverse: Vertical axis

Term
Name the 2 kinds of motion
Definition

1. Translatory or linear (object is translated as a whole from one location to another

2. Rotary or angular (object acting as a radius moves about a fixed point)

Term
Name the two types of translatory motion, and give examples
Definition

1. Rectlinear (straight line progression) ie sledding down hill

2. Curvilinear (curved translatory movement) ie. diving board

Term
What is a special type of curvilinear motion? Give an example
Definition

Circular Motion: doesn't appear to be translatory...object moves along a curved path of a constant radius...but if force stops acting on it, it will move in a linear path.

Ie. Softball pitch

Term

What's the difference between circular and angular motion?

Definition

Circular describes motion of any point on the radius.

Angular motion is descriptive of motion of the entire radius.

ie. ball is moving with circular motion, arm acts as a radius moving with angular motion

Term
What is general motion?
Definition
combo of rotary and translatory motion.  Ie..a fencer.  Angular of forearm and upper arm, or legs.  Hand travels linearly.
Term
Most movements within the body are angular, while outside tend to be linear.  What is an exception?
Definition
scapula
