9A. Direct~ Pros: governments have greater control, strong relationship between its laws and citizens. Cons: people cannot make decisions

9B. Indirect~ Pros: allows people to make decisons, a central authority has power over a country. Cons: less control over the outcome of laws

9C. Protectorate~ Pros: has its own government, independent. Cons: under protection and somewhat control of another country.

9D. Sphere of Influence~ Pros: has some control over territory or area in the world, develops new cultures. Cons: causes conflict, not always influential towards other countries.

Definition
King Leopold II was known for the finding and discovery of the Congo Free State and used the money he made for slave labor where African slaves worked in public and construction projects.

Definition
Menelik II was known for using his money to hire Europeans who would modernize weapons, roads, bridges, and a school system. He also hired Europeans to develope an army which conquered many wars.

12. Describe the Boer War.
Definition
The Boer War lasted from 1899 to 1902 and dealt with conflict between the Boers and the British. The reason why the war occured was because the Boers were descendants of the original Dutch settlers of Southern Africa and did not get along with Britain.
