1371-1435. arrived in East Africa, took giraffe present to chinese emperor as gift. commander of a Chinese fleet under the Ming dynasty. This fleet quickly visited Malacca shortly after its founding in the early 16th century. In order for Paramesvara to maintain patrimony from local rivals he cemented this relationship with the Chinese with a visit to Beijing. As a result of Zhenghe's visit, Malacca's leader also converted to Islam in order to enhance their ability to participate in the trade that passed through the strait between Malaya and Sumatra, which in turn allowed Malacca to become a leading economic power.
