- "curing" and "fixing" are the foci

- focus of intervention is on the individual

- the impaired need to adapt to mainstream society

- disability is a social construct existing due to social barriers for full participation

- concerned with broader social and political contexts

- society needs to adapt to the needs of people with disabilities

- regards the impaired as a minority group affected by inequality and oppression such as lack of employment opportunities, affordable housing, accessible transportation, prejudice, etc.

- wheelchair ramps, elevators, etc.

3. Job redesign - an adjustment or modification of duties in relation to one's work

- e.g. transportation, modified hours
