Toxicity: cinchonism- dizziness, tinnitus, headache

hypoglycemia b/c parasite consumes glucose and releases insulin, renal failure

Toxicity: neuropsychiatric - loss of balance, psychosis

Contraind: pts on beta-blockers, hx of epilepsy

**full dose needs to be repeated if vomiting occurs w/in 1st hr**

- MOA: inhibits pre-erythrocytic development of parasite in liver and interferes with cytochrome electron transport and DNA rep

MOA: inhibits plasmoidal dihydrofolate reductase

Atovaquone + Proguanil = fixed combo dose!

Toxicity: skin rash, insomnia, hyponatremia

Contraind: peds, pregnancy

MOA: inhibits plasmodial dihydropteroate synthetase --> folic acid synthesis

Toxicity: Dapsone syndrome- rash, fever, jaundice, eosinophilia

MOA: inhibs protein synthesis

Toxicity: Tooth decay, dry mouth, photosensitivity

MOA: damages plasmoidal mitochondria (ox stress)

USE: Relapse!! Effective against intrahepatic forms

Toxicity: hemolytic anemia w G6PD deficiency

MOA: inhibits calcium adenosine triphosphate - releasing free radical

Hx: from leaves of artemisia annua = sweet wormwood

Toxicity: safe
