Term
Deductive VS Inductive reasoning
Definition
Induction is usually described as moving from the specific to the general, while deduction begins with the general and ends with the specific
Term
What is and is not Science?
Definition
Any statement that cannot be tested by observation or experiment is outside the realm of science.
Term

Explain the Scientific Method

O.A.D.M.T.E.P.

Definition
  1. Observation
  2. Ask a Question/Define a Problem
  3. Develop a Hypothesis
  4. Make Predictions (If then Statements)
  5. Test the Hypothesis
  6. Evaluate the Hypothesis
  7. Peer Review
Term
Hypothesis Vs Theory?
Definition

A theory is a well-established principle that has been developed to explain some aspect of the natural word.

A hypothesis is a specific, testable prediction about what you expect to happen in your study

Term
Control Group Vs Experimental Group
Definition
Control group: Control groups are not manipulated. They are the foundational point for which to compare the experimental group against.
Term
Purpose of Repeatability and Peer Review
Definition
Showing work to others increases the probability that weaknesses will be identified and improved.
Term
What is the purpose of the Control in an Experiment?
Definition
A group that is not being manipulated that the experimental group can be measuered against.
Term
Explain how "Evolution" is just a theory?
Definition
Because is has alot of factual data to support it and is well accepted but is not or cannot be proven.
Term
Where do creativity and opinion enter the scientific method?
Definition
Opinion help to form a hypothesis and try to help explain certain situations while Creativity is needed in developing out of the box ideas for ways to solve problems or prove scientific facts.
Term

Consider the following Hypothesis: "All plants grow towards the light."

Is this a valid hypothesis? How could you go about testing this hypothesis? How extensive would the testing have to be? How could you improve on this hypothesis?

Definition
Yes it is a valid hypothesis, One could test it by testing multiple plants to see if they do indeed grow towards light and if any one does not the hypothesis is incorrect and needs revision. To make it a fact all plants would need to be tested, to make it a viable theory every plant tested would simply help support and strengthen that theory, by narrowing your hypothesis or study down one could imporve on it. For example in Darwins studies he determined that it was  not just the plant it was a particular part of the plant.
