  • requires students to complete 100hr practicum & 600hr internship

  • trained in G&D, research, evaluation, social & cultural foundations, group work, career & lifestyle development, helping relationships, appraisal, professional orientation

  • clr who practice in govt (local to federal), nonprofit agencies, schools, hospitals, are exempt from license requiremt
  • clr in private practice require license
  • state regulations of professions:
  • licensed - a licensure law  is referred to as a practice law meaning the professional must be licensed to practice clg/profession in that state
  • certified - certification law known as title law means a person has to be certified  to use the title certified professional but the practice is not regulated by the state
  • regulated - a regulation law the professional has to be register with the state - but no credentials is required for registration

CREDENTIALING: State Agency Certification &Natl Voluntary Certification
Definition
  • refer to the process where official state agencies certify individuals as qualified to hold certain state jobs
  • this process is called certification or licensure
  • in most states school clrs must be certified like teachers by state dept of ed

  • 2 natl certification agencies of clg profession: Natl Bd for Certified Clrs NBCC (who met minimum requiremts of profession & Commission on Rehab Clr Certification CRCC
  • voluntary meaning there are no govt requiremt for private practice that a clr be certified
  • a Natl Certified Clr - certified by NBCC met requiremts
  • Ctr for Credentialing & Ed division of NBCC certify clinical supervisors

Definition
  • the Council on Rehabilitation Education CORE accredits master's degree programs in rehabilitation clg
  • CACEP, CORE-clrs who graduate from their accredited grad program has a credential
  • CACEP accredits master's degree program in marriage, family, mental health, community, college, school clg & doctoral programs in clr ed & supervision

  • professional clrs are ethically required to show their credentials accurately
  • ACA code of ethics - voluntary experience separate from paid experience & accurately describe their continuing ed & specialty training C4a
  • Clrs may advertise the highest degree earned that is clg or other C4d
  • They impose few restrictions on advertising C3 to protect the public
