Areolar tissue:

  • Found around organs, between muscles and in subcutaneous skin(= hypodermis)
  • Unique characteristics are the collagen fibers(thicker lines), the elastin strands(thin lines), and the nuclei (dots)
Term

Adipose

  • Adipocytes (Fat cells) Found in the hypothermis, around organs, within and between muscles, around nerves and other areas.
  • Contain a lipid membrane, nucleus, and thin cell membrane.

Definition

Reticular conective tissue

  • Forms the framework of the liver, lymph nodes spleen, and bone marrow.
  • Reticular fibers (branch like fibers), and the dots are the reticular cells.

Definition

Dense with White Fibrous conective tissue

  • found in tendons, ligaments, fasciae, aponeuroses(broad, flat tendons) periosteum, and the sclera and cornea of the eye.
  • composed of collegenous bundles and fibroblast nuclei
Term

Definition

Irregular dense with white fibrous connective tissue

  • found in the dermis of the skin, and sheaths of nerves.
  • composed of collagen fibers that appear short and extend in all directions, hece irregular. this tissue has more elastic fibers than regular DWFCT. this is why skin is more elastic than tendons.

Hyaline Cartilage

  • many sorts of cartilage: Costal cartilage attach ribs to sternum, articular cartilages found in the end of bones in synovial joints, tracheal rings (wind pipe) and the larynx are other examples of hyaline cartilage.
  • the matrix contains capsules that are composed of a lacunae cavity, a chodrocyte and a nucleous.
Term

Definition

Elastic Cartilage

  • found in the auricle or pinna, eustachian tube and epiglottis (part of the larynx).
  • the elastic fibers (thin threads that appear as very dark, densely packed threads, are the special trait for this kind of cartilage.
Term

Definition

Fibrocartilage

  • Found in the Intervertebral joints, the sacroiliac joints, and pubic symphysis. Pads of fibrocartilage between vertebrae, are called intervertebral discs.
  • Perichondrium is NOT present. Chondrocytes are arranged in horizontal rows rather than the random placements of hyaline and elastic cartilages. bundles of collagen fibers are in rows as well.

Erythrocyte (RBC)

  • Found in blood, in known to be a liquid tissue. It appears as an enucleated reddish cell that seems to resemble a donut. (biconcave disc)
  • this is composed of platelets ( little dots), granulocytes, and agranulocytes.
Term
[image]
Definition

Granulocyte

  • large cells with a three to five lobed nucleus.
Term
[image]
Definition

Agranulocyte

  • Agranulocytes have a very large spherical nucleus that occupies  most of the nucleus.

Compact bone

  • found in the surface of the bone.
  • Lacunae- spaces bw the lamellae (layers/rings of matrix)
  • osteocytes- Mature bone cells trapped in the matrix and occupying Lacunae.
  • Canaliculi- squiggly lines Cytoplasmic processes of osteocytes, appearing as tiny hair-like fibers extending from the cell body.

Simple Squamous Epithelium

  • Found in the Bowman's capsule of the kidney, Alveoli in the lungs, capillary walls.
Term
[image]
Definition

Simple Cuboidal Epithelium

  • Found in the gallbladder
  • Renal tubules
Term

Definition
Simple columnar epithelial cells are longer than they are wide. Characteristically, their nucleui are found at the base of the cell. The cells are connected by tight junctions. The cells receive nutrients through the basement membrane, which separates the cells from the capillary basal layer.
Term

Definition

Pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium

  • Located in the trachea
  • the cilia (hairlike fibers) are the distinct trait.
  • goblet cells are visible

Term
[image]
Definition

transitional epithileum

  • found in the urinary bladder.
  • they change from state to another.
Term
[image]
Definition

stratified Squamous Epithelium: non-keratinized

  • found in the vagina

  • there is usually more than one layer. top layer of cells is flatten, and the nuclei is visible.
Term

Definition

Stratified Squamous Epithelium Keratinized

  • found in the dermis, epidermis, and hypodermis
  • scalp- the dandruff is tthe destint feature.
Term

Definition

skeletal muscle

  • found in the bones

  • is composed of striations(the horizontal lines) with individual nuclei,
Term
[image]
Definition

cardiac muscle

  • found in the heart
  • intercalated disks, nucleous,
Term

Definition

smooth muscle

  • found in wall of the uterus, blood vessels, and the iris of the eye.
  • consists of of the cell membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm.
Term

Definition

cerebral cortex

  • outer are of the cerebrum
  • has pyramidal neurons, interpret sensory data.
Term
[image]
Definition

giant multipolar neuron

  • found in the spinal cord
  • consist of a nucleus, motor neuron, or soma(cell body) and axons and dentrites
Term
[image]
Definition

neuromuscular junction

  • found bw the axon terminal of a motor nerve and a skeletal muscle fiber.
  • dots are the motor end-plates, hair-like structure is the axon of the motor neuron, the background is the skeletal muscle

Term

Definition

meissner's corpuscles

  • respond to sensitive touch
Term
[image]
Definition

pacinian corpuscles

  • found in the deep dermis
  • responds to deep dermis.
  • spaces bw the rings; interstitial fluid space. the center, is the nerve(axon).

Term

Definition

nodes of ranvier

  • occur in the myelin sheath
  • its the seperating line bw axons
