Term
What occurs in the development of the stomach?
Definition
1. Distal part of foregut is a simple tubular structure
2.4th week a slight dilation indicates site of stomach primordium
3. First appear as a fusiform enlargement of caudal part of foregut
4.Initially oriented in median plane
5. Primordium enlarges and broadens ventrodorsally
6. During next 2 weeks the dorsal border grows faster than ventral border-greater curvature of stomach
Term
What happens as the stomach enlarges and acquires its adult shape?
Definition
It slowly rotates 90 degrees around the cranial caudal axis
Term
What are the effects of the rotation of the stomach?
Definition
1. the ventral border (lesser curvature) moves to the right and the dorsal border (greater curvature) moves to the left
2. the original left side becomes the ventral surface and the original right side becomes the dorsal surface
3. Before rotation, the cranial and caudal ends are in the median plane. During rotation and growth, its cranial regions moves to the left and slightly inferiorly and its caudal region moves to the right and superiorly
4. After rotation, the stomach assumes its final position with its long axis of body
Term
What border is the lesser curvature?
Definition
the ventral border
Term
What border is the greater curvature?
Definition
the dorsal border
