Term
Function of EDG-ESW
Definition
Provide cooling water to the EDGs which must operate under loss-of-station power and accident conditions.
Term
#11 EDG-ESW pump power supply
Definition
MCC-134
Term
#12 EDG-ESW pump power supply
Definition
MCC-143
Term
Control power to #11 EDG-ESW
Definition
MCC-134 (pump breaker via step-down transformer inside cubicle)
Term
Control power to #12 EDG-ESW
Definition
MCC-143 (pump breaker via step-down transformer inside cubicle)
Term
Purpose of seal water system
Definition
Designed to supply 48 gpm of well water (service water backup) filtered through a 50 micron filter to pump seals.
Term
Purpose of Emergency Service Water
Definition
"Provide cooling to EFT A/C condensers, ECCS pump motor oil coolers and ECCS room coolers under loss of off-site power and accident conditions."
Term
"Connection between Service water and ESW, EDG-ESW systems"
Definition
Service water system supplies cooling to Emergency service water system and provides backup supply to EDG-ESW system.
Term
Which service water components are monitored for radiation before it leaves the plant?
Definition
"All service water from the building, except discharge from V-AC-6 RCIC room air cooler, MG Set oil coolers, and plant admin building ventilation and A/C units."
Term
Which service water components are monitored by discharge canal sample radiation monitoring?
Definition
"V-AC-6 discharge, MG Set oil coolers, plant admin HVAC."
Term
"What effect does (physical) removal of a service pump have on EDG-ESW, ESW and RHRSW system piping seismic operability?"
Definition
NO EFFECT
Term
Service water pump starting limitations
Definition
"Twice from ambient temperature and once from rated. For subsequent starts, 60 minutes idle time or 30 minutes running at full speed is required."
Term
EDG-ESW pump design flow rate
Definition
500 gpm with a minimum requirement of 360 gpm of 90 degrees F cooling water.
Term
Back up of EDG-ESW system
Definition
Service water through a manual valve
Term
Precaution associated with using the EDG-ESW cross-tie line.
Definition
"Should only be used in abnormal situations, after EDG operability effects have been fully considered because one pump is not designed to supply both loops simultaneously."
Term
RAW WATER alarm setpoints and sensing point
Definition
Loss of flow: 367 gpm or less; Low pressure: 7 psig or less; sensed on the cooling water inlet line.
Term
EDG indicating lights and their meanings (on C-08)
Definition
"Red: running; Green: pump stopped and electrical continuity to the control circuit. NOTE: Locally, at the breaker, red and green lights as well. White light at breaker indicates control power available."
Term
What happens on a 12 EDG high temperature condition?
Definition
190 degrees F: 12 ESW pump will transfer to the ASDS panel C-292 and an auto-start signal is provided to 12 ESW pump. Upon condition clearing, and HOT ENGINE annunciator LOCALLY reset (on panel C-94), control will be shifted back to C-08.
Term
What happens on a 11 EDG high temperature condition?
Definition
190 degrees F. Just an alarm (no pump start).
Term
Explain automatic control of EDG-ESW pumps
Definition
By diesel start interlocks located in the diesel control panels. When a diesel starts and reaches 125 RPM, relay contacts close causing the associated pump motor breaker to close. If normal power is available, the pumps start immediately. If power is not available, the pumps start when the EDG output breakers close to re-energize the bus.
Term
Minimum EDG-ESW flow requirement
Definition

367 gpm based on 360 gpm plus instrument accuracies. This requirement assumes river temperature of 90 degrees F

UHS INOP if temperature greater than 90 degrees F.

Term
Requirements to consider Ultimate Heat Sink OPERABLE
Definition
899 ft mean sea level and max temperature of 90 degrees F.
Term
What is required to consider an EDG-ESW subsystem OPERABLE?
Definition
Operable pump and operable flow path capable of taking suction from the intake structure and transferring the water to the associated EDG.
Term
Where does EDG-ESW discharge after removing heat from the EDG?
Definition
Storm Drains
Term
Consideration upon declaring EDG-ESW subsystem inoperable.
Definition
The associated EDG cannot perform its intended function and must immediately be declared inoperable. In accordance with LCO 3.0.6, this also requires entering the applicable Conditions and Required actions of LCO 3.8.1, AC Sources - Operating.
Term
Discuss EDG-ESW hoods
Definition
Provided to protect the electrical motors in the event of actuation of the pre-action fire sprinkler; and are REQUIRED to be in place to consider the ESW pump operable.
Term
Precaution associated with EDG-ESW basket strainer
Definition
Prior to opening for cleaning, ensure strainer is isolated and bypass valve open to prevent affecting EDG operability. Also, return strainer to service ASAP to prevent fouling of EDG heat exchangers by unstrained EDG-ESW, if the EDG should be required to operate.
Term
Precaution associated with SW-228 and SW-229 (Service Water to ESW inlet isolation valves) being closed.
Definition
Normally closed. Furthermore, if an EDG is running and the EDG-ESW pump is operating normally, these valves should be kept closed to prevent dead-head operation of the EDG-ESW pump and possible rapid degradation of the pump (because Service water is at a higher pressure than EDG-ESW).
Term
Requirements to consider EDG operable after opening SW-228 or SW-229 (Service water inlet to EDG-ESW).
Definition
If either of these valves are opened, the associated EDG is declared inoperable. It may be declared operable providing: The valve is closed, independently verified closed, and leak-tested. NOTE: Associated EDG-ESW pump will be started to perform leak test, and leakage past the valve shall not exceed 8 liters per minute with associated pump running; (furthermore) with associated pump running, flow shall be verified 367 gpm or greater.
