Berlin Uprising 1953
Definition
strike by construction workers in East Berlin in 1953, turned into a widespread anti-stalinist uprising against the German democratic republic. It spread over east Germany and was violently suppressed, but it was hard to bring under control. It was caused by the decree to raise charges against farmers so that they had to give up their independence, also a lack of food and consumer goods. Last straw was the decision to raise the work norms for higher productivity.
