Fact: The Mogao Cave was a center of commerce for the Silk Road as well as a meeting place for various people and religions such as Buddhism.

The caves became a place of worship and pilgrimage for the public.

This is a highly energetic piece, with sharp lines and bold, colors with no shading, which can be a testament to the shock of the Chinese painting style meeting new Buddhist imagery and foreign techniques of representation.
