Busulfan (Myleran)

antineoplastic

SE:  bone marrow depression

NC:  check CBC (applies to all drugs in this table), most chemotherapy causes stomatitis and requires extra fluids to flush system

Chlorambucil (Leukeran)

antineoplastic

SE:  N/V, bone marrow depression, sterility

NC:  monitor for infection, avoid IM injections when platelet cout is low to minimize bleeding

Cyclophamide (Cytoxan)

antineoplastic

SE:  alopecia, bone marrow depression, hemorrhagic cystitis, dermatitis, hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia, amenorrhea

NC:  report hematuria, force fluids, monitor for infection, give antiemetic

Fluorouracil (5-FU)

antineoplastic

SE:  nausea, stomat ulceration, liver damage, bone marrow depression, stomatitis, alopecia, bloody diarrhea, fatigue

NC:  monitor for infection, avoid extravasation

Methotrexate

antineoplastic

SE:  oral and GI ulceration, liver damage, bone marrow depression, stomatitis, alopecia, bloody diarrhea, fatigue

NC:  good mouth care, avoid alcohol, monitor hepatic and renal function tests

Mercaptopurine (6-MP)

antineoplastic

SE:  liver damage, bone marrow depression, infection, alopecia, abdominal bleeding

NC:  chek liver function tests

Cytarabine

antineoplastic

SE:  Hematologic abnormalities, nausea, vomiting, rash, wgt loss

NC:  force fluids, good oral hygiene

Hydroxyurea (Hydrea)

antineoplastic

SE:  bone marrow depression, GI symptoms, rash

NC:  teach client to report toxic GI symptoms promptly
