Definition
Listen attentively, be patient do not interrupt.
Ask simple questions that require yes or no answers.
Allow time for understanding and response.
Encourage patient to converse.
Let patient know if you do not understand him/her.
Collaborate with speech therapist as needed.
Use communication aides.

Use simple sentences and avoid long explanations.

Have dictionary (e.g.English/Spanish) available if patient can read.
