Term
Cloud is typically deployed in what three manners?
Definition
Public Cloud
Private Cloud
Hybrid Cloud
Term
what is infrastructure as a Service or (IaaS)?
Definition
Infrastructure as a service is when a consumer (you or me) can deploy and run arbitrary software, this includes software and applications. Although the consumer can access these applications and software you do not manage or control the underlying cloud physical infrastructure (server, storage, network infrastructure).

IaaS provides virtual machine, block storage, firewall.
Term
What are the five characteristics of cloud services?
Not known
Definition
1.Self-service
2.Broad accessibility
3.Shared
4.Elastic
5.Measured Metered
Term
How does cloud provide Self-Service capabilities?
Definition
Consumers can provision and manage servers, systems, and resources through a single portal or developer API. For netapp, there is On-Demand which shows what resources are available to the consumer.
Term
How does cloud provide broad accessibility?
Definition
You can access the cloud from almost any device with internet connection,
Ex. Laptops, desktops, mobile devices
Term
How does shared resources help with maximum efficiency in a cloud environment?
Definition
Because resources are pooled there is a lot of load balancing. Resources can be allocated based on demand.
Term
How is the cloud elastic?
Definition
You can add or subtract host nodes seamlessly based on demand.
Term
What is measured metered in a cloud environment?
Definition
Usage is calculated based on what is consumed by the user. Typically referred to as pay-as-you-go.
Term
What is Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS)?
Definition
You can access applications from the cloud provider but have no access to the network, servers, operating systems, and storage.

For example google docs
Term
What is IT as a Service or (ITaaS)?
Definition
ITaaS s an operational and organizational shift to running IT like a business and optimizing IT production for business consumption.
Term
What five important areas are considered with cloud?
Definition
1.Security and Risk
2. Privacy
3. Compliance
4. Vendor Lock-in
5. Performance
Term
What can be the risk of using the public cloud?
Definition
*Collateral damage

Because you are sharing an environment with others, even though you may not be a target your resources may be affected, resulting in a service interruption.
Term
What is vendor lock-in?
Definition
Vendor lock-in is the situation in which a consumer using a product or service cannot easily transition to a competitor's product or service.
Possibly due to incompatible technology, inefficient processes or constraints.
Term
What are some performance characteristics that should be monitored?
Definition
bandwidth, connectivity, and scalability.
Term
What are some benefits of the public cloud?
Definition
Rapid implementation, massive scalability, and low cost of entry.
Term
What are some benefits of the private cloud?
Definition
Architectural and operational control, internally designed, hosted, and managed.
Term
What is Platform as a Service (PaaS)?
Definition
The cloud provider gives you a platform to create applications from the tools supported by the provider. The consumer does not manage the network, servers, operating systems, or storage. But the consumer has control over the deployed applications and application hosting environments/ configuration.
Term
What four important needs does cloud computing address?
Definition
Velocity
Growth
Cost reduction
Consistency
Term
What is a public cloud?
Definition
Public cloud: resources that are typically rendered over the internet or open network.
Public cloud is typically owned and operated by commercial service providers.

For example AWS, Rackspace, and Salesforce
Term
What is the hybrid cloud?
Definition
A combination of one or more public or private clouds, bount together by a common fabric.
Term
What is the private cloud?
Definition
Cloud resources built specifically for an entity. The main difference between a public and private cloud is that with a private cloud the infrastructure is over the internet. With private cloud that infrastructure is with the organization.
