(1657-1736) Lived in the town of Haverhill on the Massachusetts frontier. On the morning of Match 158, 1697 a band of Abenakis struck Haverhill. This woman, her newborn child, and midwife were captured. Her child was killed. The two women and a boy named Samuel were marched away. This woman woke and found the Indians to be sleeping, woke the two whites, handed them hatchets and went to work. They returned to Haverhill with the scalps of the Abenakis.

He raised taxes while the economy was hurting, which forced small plantations to close, indentured servants did not see much opportunity in these conditions. During this time he also initiated a decree that only persons owning 50 or more acres had voting privileges.
