 Dive for fish - heavy and sit low in the water (can really only see head), don't have water-proofing on feathers (get waterlogged, have to dry out), fly in "V" formation (like geese)

In flight: have very bright wing patch on inner-wing (contrast with outter black wing), hang around water

Most common & largest Heron (~Sandhill Crane), S-shaped neck, blue in color, massive beak with yellow color, white neck with black streaks, ornate feathers on head in breeding season, thick black stripe behind eye, hairy feathers on chest and back, nest in colonies

 

Call: a deep, horse croak: a frog getting stepped on
