Term
What is assymetrical symmetry?
Definition
When there is no specific shape or is irregular.
Term
What is radial symmetry?
Definition
when body parts are arranged around a central axis like spokes around a bike wheel.
Term
What is bilateral symmetry?
Definition
When there are distinct right and left halves
Term
Why does a sponge have radial symmetry?
Definition
because it has no specific shape to it.
Term
Why does a cnidarian have radial symmetry?
Definition
becus the body parts are arranged around a central axis.
Term
Why do humans have bilateral symmetry?
Definition
becuzzz we have distinct right and left halves.
Term
Explain The digestive system of an earthworm.
Definition
Soil goes into the pharynx and then through the mouth. The food moves through the esophagus and then into the storage area called the crop. Next it goes into the gizzard which grinds the food. Finally solid waste goes through the anus and liquid waste goes through the nephridia.
Term
Better breakdown of the digestive system:
Definition
Pharynx, Mouth, Esophagus, Crop, Gizzard, Anus or Nephridia
Term
What is the circulatory system of an eaarthwaorm like?
Definition
It is closed.
Blood goes anterior to posterior by a ventral blood vessel
Blood travels posterior to anterior by a dorsal blood vessel
It goes to the five aortic hearts
Then the smaller vessels branch into each segment of the body.
Term
What is dorsal?
Definition
the back of an organism
Term
What is ventral?
Definition
stomach area
Term
what is medial?
Definition
the middle of an organism
Term
What is lateral?
Definition
the side of an organism
Term
what is anterior?
Definition
toward the head
Term
what is posterior?
Definition
toward the back end or butt
Term
what is caudal
Definition
tail
Term
whatttt is cranial
Definition
head
Term
Blood type A can be what?
Definition
AA or AO
Term
If you have type B blood, what are your genes?
Definition
B or BO
Term
If you are type AB blood, what are your genes?
Definition
A or B-one gene is A, one gene is B.
Term
If you are type O blood, what are your genes?
Definition
Genes have to be OO.
Term
How do you determine blood types with blood typing?
Definition
Do a punnet square or two depending on what the parents blood types are.
Term
Why are sex linked traits primarily shown in males?
Definition
because males can only carry one allele while females can carry two. objective question oooopppss
Term
In a pedigree what would a colored square mean?
Definition
A male with the disease or condition thingy
Term
In a pedigree what would a white cirlce mean?
Definition
A female that is normal.
Term
If Dee, who has a disease, marries Don, who is normal, what is the chance their kids would have a condition? What would you do for this problem?
Definition
You would do a punnet square. Since most disorders are recessive, you would have dd on one side and Dd on the other. DO the square and put the genotypes and phenotypes then the answer.
Term
What does a half colored shape mean in a pedigree?
Definition
That the person is a carrier
Term
How can you tell wheteher a trait is dominant or recessive?
Definition
If it skips a generation it is recessive. If it is in all generations it is dominat.
Term
How can you tell whether a condition is sex linked or autosomal in a pedigree?
Definition
Sex linked would mean the trait is specific for males or females. Autosomal is not specific for males or females.
