Engine Starting Check List

 

Engine Oil Vent Battery Start Cooling Engine

Definition
  1. Check Engine. Open the engine compartment and inspect for leaks, loose wires.  Smell for fumes.
  2. Check Oil. Check the oil level.
  3. Vent if Gas. If Gasoline Engine: Vent with blower.
  4. Test Batteries individually with cabin lights. Set on All to charge everything.
  5. Start Engine Proceedure: 1)Shift in Neutral, 2) Glow plug (or choke for gas) if necessary, 3) Crack the throttle to amount stated in boat manual.
  6. Check Engine Cooling. Check to stearn to ensure water is coming out of the exhaust pipe.
  7. Check Engine Again. Look at engine for one minute to ensure all in normal.  Check gauges.

  1. Anchor grabs the bottom of ocean.
  2. Rode is the Chain and Rope (Chain is usually about the length of the boat.)
  3. Scope is a ratio of the length of an anchor rode from the bit (cleat) to the anchor and the depth of the water under the bow of the boat measured from deck height.
