Position: over superior transverse scapular ligament

Supplies: supraspinatus, infraspinatus muscles and shoulder and acromioclavicular joints

Position: arises from subclavian artery and accompanies the dorsal nerve

Supplies: levator scapulae, rhomboids, and serratus anterior muscle

Divided into 3 parts

1st part: 1 branch, the superior thoracic artery

2nd part: 2 branches, the thoracoacromial artery and the lateral thoracic artery

3rd part: 3 branches, the subscapular artery, and the posterior and anterior circumflex humeral arteries

Branch off first section of axillary artery

Supplies: intercostal muscles in 1st and 2nd anterior intercostal spaces

1 of 2 branches off the second division of the axillary artery

-pierces costacoracoid membrane; has pectoral, acromial, and deltoid branches

1 of 2 branches off the 2nd division of the axillary artery

Position: runs along the lateral border of the pec minor

Supplies: the pectoralis major and minor muscles, serratus anterior muscle, axillary lymph nodes, and gives rise to lateral mammary branches

1 of 3 branches off third division of axillary artery

- is largest branch of axillary artery

-has 2 branches: the thoracodorsal artery and the circumflex scapular artery

Position: arises at the lower border of the subscapularis muscle and descends along axillary border of scapula

1 of 2 branches of subscapular artery

Supplies: latissimus dorsi and lateral thoracic wall

1 of 2 branches off of the subscapular artery

-anastomoses with branch of dorsal scapular and suprascaplular arteries

1 of 3 branches off of 3rd division of axillary artery

Position: runs anterior around surgical neck of humerus

-anastomoses with posterior humeral circumflex artery

Position: runs posterior with axillary nerve through the quadrangular space by the teres major and minor muscles, the long head of the triceps brachii and the humerus

-anastomoses with anterior circumflex humeral artery

-the axillary artery turns into the brachial artery at the inferior border of the teres major. The brachial artery continues until its bifurcation in the cubital fossa

-lies on triceps brachii then brachial muscles, medial to the coracobrachialis and biceps brachii.

-accompanied by basilic vein in middle of arm

-lies in the center of the cubital fossa
