Extra: most famous temple of the world, great feat for its time; initially built for the goddess Athena then converted into a Christian church, Christians found the decorations offensice so they defaces the sculpturs and art work, then converted ino a mosque, they didnt like it either and used guns to distroy it, worst was when Venetians lobbed a bomb and blew off the roof of the south wall

-Design plan: contains pendiment and columns; intially had 2 chambers:1. treasury room to store gold and precious goods 2. chamber that housedthe statue of Athena (in gold)

  • Doric: looked like a piece of cussion and is the simplest and plain form
  • Ionic: capital looked like rolled up scrolls
  • Corinthian: most elaborate and can be identified by the leafy (coffer plants) decorations (it also has rolled up scroll on it)

  • Cathedral- home church for the Bishop; only have one Cathedral per region bc there is only one Bishop per region
  • Basilica-A roman town hall with 3 aisles and an apse at one or both ends, Christians approprated this form for their churches; basic rectangular building with large interior space usually used for governmental purposes/ buildings
