Definition
Auscultated at right and left lung bases. Fine crackles are high-pitched fine, short, interrupted crackling sounds heard during end of respiration, usually not cleared with coughing. Medium crackles are lower, more moist sounds heard during middle of inspiration; not cleared with coughing. Coarse crackles are allowed, bubbly sound heard during inspiration; not cleared with coughing.

Auscultated throughout lung fields high-loss of the air flow through severely narrowed or obstructed airway. High-pitched, continuous musical sounds like a squeak heard continuously during inspiration and expiration; usually louder on expiration.

A high-pitched, heart sound occurring during inspiration, often heard without the use of a stethoscope. Sign of upper airway obstruction, which may indicate the presence of a life-threatening condition such as, epiglottitis.

Auscultated over her trachea and bronchi; if loud enough able to be heard over most of the lung fields. Caused by muscle spasms, fluid, or mucus in large airways. Loud, low-pitched, rumbling coarse sounds heard either during inspiration or expiration; sometimes cleared with coughing.
