Description: Single-layered and centrally located nuclei

Function: osmosis, diffusion, filtration (very thin, fragile)

Location: lungs (alveoli), kidneys (bowman's capsule)

Simple Cubodial Epithelial

Description: single layered, cube shaped cells, central round nuclei, microvili or cillia

Function: used inside tubules

Location: Kidneys,

Simple Columnar Epithelial

Description: single layered, oval shapped nuclei at base of the cell, microvili, cillia

Function:

• movement of eggs - uteran tube
  
• absorption of nutrients from food - intestines (greater SA)
  
• protects lining, assists in absorption/secretion of bile - stomach, intestines, digestive glands, gallbladder
• reabsorption of water - kidney tubules
• lining - thyroid
