Why did war break out in 1914?

 

In Bosnia, there was a town called Sarajevo. Franz ferdinand was the archduke of Austria and was next in line for the throne. He for a royal visit. At the time there was a revolt against more people moving to sebia which Franz did not allow. there was a group of teenagers who wanted to kill Franz because of this. They called themselves the Black Hand gang. The assasination was a succes but this caused an outrage. Franz and his pregnant wife were both shot on their way to the town hall. Austria blamed serbia for this and eventually, Austria declared war on Serbia. This led to the start of two powerful sides forming.

First big war, Thought it would be over by christmas, paid,

Uniform->pride, fed well, to be a hero, weapons

Why was WW1 not over by christmas?

This was because of a stalemate. This meant that knowone could make a major push. Both sides built trenches to protect themselves from the enemy because none of them knew if the other side had a trick up their sleeves.
