Definition
Macedonian emperors, starting with Basil I heavily expanded the empire by strengthing the navy(Basil I) and the army(Basil II). They did so by keeping military strongholds in each city. Furthermore missionary work followed their conquest and cemented the conquered into a Byzantium mindset.
