What were some contributing factors for the Reformation?
Definition
The heirarchy of the Catholic church had become worldly and corrupt, Catholic doctrines and practices had departed from the Bible. Also, the Renaissance had introduced new ways of thinking, the printing press enabled ideas to be circulated widely. Nationalism led people to not feel as connected to Rome (the center of the Roman Catholic Church). Finally, there was an increased desire for meaningful faith.

He wanted his marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled because she could produce no male heirs. The pope refused, but the Archbishop of Canterbury annulled the marrige in 1533. The pope excommunicated Henry.

Definition
It was established so the pope, the Jesuits, and others loyal to the church could control proceedings. It met on and off for 18 years.
