origin: spinous processes of thoracic T7-L5, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and inferior 3 or 4 ribs, inferior angle of scapula

insertion:  floor of intertubercular groove of the humerus

Insertion: posterior border of the lateral third of the clavicle, acromion process, and spine of scapula

Semispinalis dorsi

origin: transverse processes of the sixth to the tenth thoracic vertebræ

insertion: spinous processes of the upper four thoracic and lower two cervical vertebrae

Serratus posterior superior

origin: nuchal ligament (or ligamentum nuchae) and the spinous processes of the vertebrae C7 through T3

insertion: the upper borders of the 2nd through 5th ribs

Serratus posterior inferior

origin: vertebrae T11 - L2

insertion: the inferior borders of the 9th through 12th ribs

Greater occipital nerve

origin: dorsal primary ramus of cervical spinal nerve 2

course: ascends after emerging from the suboccipital triangle between the inferior oblique and semispinalis capitis muscle; passes through the trapezius muscle and ascends to innervate the skin along the posterior part of the scalp to the vertex

Longissimus thoracis

origin: posterior surfaces of the transverse processes and the accessory processes of the lumbar vertebræ, and to the anterior layer of the lumbodorsal fascia

insertion: tips of the transverse processes of all the thoracic vertebræ, and by fleshy processes into the lower nine or ten ribs between their tubercles and angles

Longissimus cervicis

origin: summits of the transverse processes of the upper four or five thoracic vertebræ

insertion: posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of the cervical vertebrae from the second to the sixth

Longissimus capitis

origin: transverse processes of the upper four or five thoracic vertebræ, and the articular processes of the lower three or four cervical vertebrae

insertion: posterior margin of the mastoid process

Iliocostalis

origin: Sacrum/Illiac Crest/Spinous Processes of lower lumbar/thoracic vertebrae
