The Soviet blocked the Western Allies railway and road access to sectors of Berlin under Allied control. The goal was for the western powers to let the Soviets provide all the food etc to the city and thus have control. The Western Allies response was to fly in food and supplies to the people in west Berlin. Over 200,000 flights in one year
